Political Talent

Heard on Radio 1 yesterday:

"Yves Leterme thought she (Inge Vervotte) was a political talent. If you look at the number of votes she got in the last federal elections, he was proven right."

So dear mister journalist (sorry, I forgot your name), political talent is measured by the number of votes now?

Tomtom Routeplanner

I received this mail today:

Dear Martijn,

Congratulations, you've recently registered to be part of the Beta programme of the TomTom Online Route Planner and now have been granted access to it.

Obviously, I'll test it, and test it again. Feedback will follow.

Red "De Morgen"...

... or in English: Save "De Morgen". Indeed, a lot of fuss the last couple of days (including some Facebook groups). And no, I will not join these groups, and, I for one do not care whether "De Morgen" will disappear or not.
Offcourse, I sympathize with the people being fired. Offcourse I disrespect the CEO's and CCM's (Chief Capitalist Morons) that lead these companies, but I will never ever join a group to save "De Morgen" or whatever other company. This is just another consequence of society turning towards an extreme form of capitalism over the last decades ("Staff" became "Human Resources", to eventually become "Human Capital"), and as such is nothing more than logical in times of economic recession.
You, the society, wanted capitalism? You got it. Now don't start crying over a few lost jobs!

Crunchbang

I had a quick look at Crunchbang Linux today. I'll need to dig deeper into it. But I'm impressed! Keep up the good work!

Profoss

I checked the Profoss website today. Their objective is to spread objective information about the possibility to use professional solutions based on alternatives to proprietary and closed products.
Nothing wrong but that, but... how can I take Profoss serious when seeing a huge Microsoft logo in the section "sponsors"?

OpenOffice Branding

Sun seems to be seriously considering ads in OpenOffice. My first reaction (and basically my second too) was WTF? Ads in an office suite? I can't and won't accept that, and if it happens, I sure hope the magnificent community will start a fork. What the ... maybe I'll just start one myself right away, just to prevent from capitalist morons to make OpenOffice just another adware. I'll think about it, and keep you updated.

Back

I've enjoyed a one week holiday in Monastir, Tunisia. I didn't have time yet (I returned late yesterday) to sort and edit pictures, but I'll post some as soon as possible.
Conclusion of this holiday? The weather was great, the people were nice and the country is magnificent. It's a pitty it's scattered with dirt. You see plastic bags, bottles and other junk all over the place.

New theme

As I wasn't satisfied with any of the freely available Drupal themes, I decided to create my own. Although it might not be 100% perfect, I'm satisfied. Comments are obviously welcome.

Maurice Engelen

I never (well, except for yesterday) watch "X-factor" (a hunt for talent(?) on VTM, Flanders' leading commercial TV channel, but yesterday I was glad I did.
Maurice Engelen (aka Praga Khan) made my day with, for me, the television moment of the year.
What happened? Well, as in every talent hunt, a number of "talents" made it to the next round after a televote, and two "talents" had to perform again, this time to be judged by 3 professional judges. One of these judges was Maurice Engelen. Now, the judges not only judge, they also coach. Maurice coached the 16 - 24 years old, Kris Wauters (Clouseau) coached the 25+ years old, and a lady called "Do" coached the groups.
To cut a long story short, 4 girls called "Ladies First" performed like 4 cats being strangled with eachother's tail, one girl, whose name I already forgot (says enough no?) looked like she was trying to imitate a mix of Amy Winehouse and Marilyn Manson (oh horror). There also was a young dude Karim (16) with a voice that made Fran Dresscher (The Nanny, remember?) sound like heaven. But... Flanders decided "Ladies First" as well as "Amy Manson" were talented, and Karim wasn't. The other non-talent was Dorwan, who apparently had a pas as a small criminal, and happened to have a slightly darker skin. Both non-talents happened to be coached by Maurice Engelen.
After their rematch, Kris decided Karim should go, and Do decided Dorwan should go, so the decision was up to Maurice, who, I state again, also happened to be the coach of the 2 non-talents. But, instead of deciding, Maurice fulminated against the uncomprhensible opinion of Flanders' tv-viewers, stood up, and took a chair in the crowd, saying "I refuse to vote". He was clearly very upset, and was absolutely right.
Respect Maurice!
